Sanur: A Cool, Wavy Display Font for Modern Brand Identity

I opened a fresh brand board last week—no client name yet, just a quiet little skincare studio in Portland with handmade balms, minimalist packaging, and a voice that’s calm but quietly confident. Their brief? “Warm, human, never clinical.” First thing I did was scroll past the usual suspects—no overused script fonts, no sterile sans serifs—and landed on Sanur. Right away, it felt like stepping into a sunlit studio: breezy, intentional, and unmistakably alive.

Sanur for Skincare Branding and Thoughtful Packaging Design

Sanur is a cool, wavy and modern display font—and that waver? It’s not randomness. It’s rhythm. Each letter carries subtle, organic movement: the ‘S’ curves like a breath, the ‘R’ tilts just enough to feel grounded but curious, and the lowercase ‘a’ and ‘g’ have open, friendly shapes that invite pause. As a display font, Sanur doesn’t try to be neutral—it leans in. That made it perfect for the studio’s product labels: small 2” x 3” stickers where every millimeter counts. I tested it at 18pt on matte kraft paper, and the wavy forms held up beautifully—no blurring, no visual noise. It didn’t shout; it whispered with intention.

For their box sleeve, I used Sanur as the sole typographic element—just the studio’s name, centered, in black ink on cream stock. No logo lockup needed. The font itself became the identity anchor. That’s the power of a well-chosen display font: when the letterforms are this distinct, they carry meaning before you even read the word.

Sanur for Social Media Graphics and Digital Brand Consistency

One thing I love about Sanur is how it translates across screens. On Instagram, where attention lasts under two seconds, Sanur cuts through feed clutter—not because it’s loud, but because it’s recognizable. I built a set of six social templates (ingredient spotlights, seasonal rituals, behind-the-scenes moments) using Sanur for headlines only, paired with a clean, airy sans serif (Inter, light weight) for body copy. The contrast worked instantly: Sanur gave each post its own quiet signature, while the supporting type kept things legible and grounded.

It’s worth noting: Sanur shines brightest in short-form text. Think headings, hero sections, poster titles, or shop signage—not paragraphs. As a display font, it’s designed to command space, not fill it. I tested it in a website header at 48px on desktop and 36px on mobile, and yes—it scaled cleanly. No hint of distortion, no awkward spacing. Just smooth, confident presence.

Sanur for Logo Design and Hand-Drawn-Inspired Brand Systems

Here’s where Sanur surprised me most: logo design. Most wavy fonts lean too illustrative or too playful for serious branding—but Sanur walks that line with elegance. Its uniquely shaped letters aren’t exaggerated; they’re refined. I mocked up three logo options: stacked, inline, and monogram + wordmark. All worked. Even better? When exported as vector, the curves stayed crisp at any size—from a tiny favicon to a 4’ wide mural on their studio wall.

Because Sanur has such strong personality, I kept pairing simple. One serif (Cormorant Garamond, regular weight) for print collateral like ingredient cards and thank-you notes. One sans (Manrope, medium) for digital UI and email footers. No scripts, no extra flourishes—Sanur already brings the warmth. Letting it breathe makes the whole system feel intentional, not busy.

Sanur for Editorial Design and Print-First Creative Projects

We printed a small-run zine for their launch—12 pages, riso-printed, folded by hand. For the cover, I set the title in Sanur at 72pt, slightly tracked out. On uncoated paper, the wavy strokes created soft micro-shadows that added tactile depth. Inside, I used Sanur only for section headers and pull quotes—never body text. That restraint kept the reading experience calm and focused. As a display font, Sanur doesn’t need to do everything. It just needs to land once, clearly, memorably.

If you’re working on editorial design, greeting cards, posters, or limited-edition merch, Sanur gives your project an instant point of view. Not trendy—timeless-but-fresh. Not quirky—thoughtfully expressive.

Sanur for Small Business Branding and Local Shop Signage

Their storefront sign is wood-mounted, laser-cut acrylic, backlit with warm LEDs. We used Sanur for the business name—no icon, no tagline, just the type. At 8 inches tall, the curves softened the light just enough to glow without glare. Passersby slowed down. A few even took photos. That’s rare for typography alone. But Sanur has that effect: it feels handmade, even though it’s digital. It says “we paid attention”—to craft, to detail, to feeling.

For business cards, I placed Sanur on one side only—name and contact info in tight, centered alignment. The other side stayed blank except for a single blind deboss of their botanical motif. The font carried the weight. No extra decoration needed.

How to Test Sanur Before Committing to a Full Brand System

Before locking in Sanur, I did three quick tests: (1) Printed a label mockup at actual size on the exact paper stock we’d use; (2) Uploaded a sample to Figma and previewed it across iOS, Android, and desktop Chrome; (3) Asked two non-designer friends—both longtime customers of similar studios—to describe the vibe in one word. (“Calm,” “artful,” “honest.”) All aligned.

Also worth checking: Sanur includes standard OpenType features—ligatures, stylistic alternates, and multilingual support (Latin-based languages). No extended Cyrillic or Arabic, but solid coverage for English, Spanish, French, German, and Scandinavian use. Licensing is commercial-friendly—no per-seat limits, no web font restrictions. You get OTF and WOFF files, so it works in Adobe apps, Figma, and live sites.

If you're choosing fonts for real client work—especially for brands that value authenticity, craftsmanship, or quiet confidence—Sanur isn’t just another display font. It’s a thoughtful collaborator. It doesn’t compete with your visuals. It completes them.
